Sugar Beach St. Lucia: The Ultimate Honeymoon Guide

Turquoise water, private beachfront bungalows, and a backdrop of towering Pitons — here’s why Sugar Beach might just be the honeymoon destination of the moment.

St. Lucia is quickly becoming this generation’s Maui or Bora Bora, and after spending a week at Sugar Beach, it’s easy to understand why. With its dramatic mountain scenery, impossibly blue Caribbean water, and a level of service that makes you feel like the resort was designed just for you, Sugar Beach is the kind of place that makes it difficult to imagine honeymooning anywhere else.

Whether you’re planning your honeymoon, celebrating an anniversary, or simply looking for a destination that feels a little more special than your typical beach vacation, here’s everything I’d recommend knowing before booking your stay.

Getting There Is Easier Than You Think

One of the biggest advantages of Sugar Beach is its location. The resort is approximately a 45-minute drive from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), and the hotel can arrange your transportation directly, making the arrival process simple and stress-free.

For honeymooners, I’d recommend arranging transportation through the resort ahead of time so you can start enjoying your vacation from the moment you land.

Where to Stay: The Beachfront Bungalow

Sugar Beach offers a variety of accommodations, from hillside hideaways to villas and beachfront options, so there’s something for different travel styles and budgets.

Personally, we stayed in a beachfront bungalow, and it was perfect. Being right by the water made the experience feel incredibly special, particularly for a honeymoon. There’s something about waking up steps from the beach and having the Caribbean practically at your doorstep that makes the entire trip feel a little more romantic.

One of the highlights of our stay was the butler service. We had a team of butlers looking after us throughout the week, and the service was excellent. They were attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely focused on making our experience as seamless as possible. It was the kind of personalized service that makes you feel less like a hotel guest and more like someone the team truly wants to take care of. Our team knew us so well that by the end of the week, they were bringing us our favorite drinks and snacks right when we woke up, without us even asking.

The Beach Is the Star of the Show

Sugar Beach itself is absolutely stunning. Nestled between the iconic Pitons, the beach has the kind of scenery that makes you stop and take it all in, even after you’ve spent several days there.

It’s so beautiful that visitors staying at other properties around the island, as well as cruise passengers, often make their way here to experience the beach and its snorkeling. Despite its popularity, the resort does an impressive job of making your stay feel peaceful and intimate.

Although the property is relatively compact, we never felt crowded. In fact, it often felt as though we were the only people there. The staff are incredibly attentive, and the overall atmosphere feels personal rather than overwhelming.

And the beach service deserves its own mention. Settle into your chair, raise the little flag at your seat, and the waitstaff will bring you just about anything you need. An Aperol spritz? Absolutely. A cheese pizza for a mid-afternoon snack? You got it. It’s the kind of effortless luxury that makes an entire day disappear without you ever needing to leave your beach chair.

Must-Do Activities at Sugar Beach

While it would be tempting to spend the entire honeymoon lounging on the beach, there are two experiences I would absolutely prioritize. The best part? Both can be arranged through the hotel.

1. Visit the Sulphur Springs

No trip to St. Lucia feels complete without experiencing the island’s famous volcanic landscape. The Sulphur Springs, near Soufrière, offer a completely different perspective on the island beyond its beaches and resorts.

It’s a great way to spend a few hours exploring St. Lucia’s natural wonders and adding something memorable to your honeymoon itinerary. Arrange the excursion through Sugar Beach so the resort can help coordinate the experience, the springs are only about a 15 minute drive away.

2. Book a Boat Day

If there’s one experience I’d tell honeymooners not to skip, it’s a boat day. Seeing St. Lucia from the water gives you an entirely different appreciation for the island, particularly the dramatic Pitons and the beautiful coastline.

A boat excursion is also a wonderful way to break up your beach days while still enjoying the Caribbean sunshine. Whether you want to snorkel, explore the coastline, or simply spend the day on the water together, ask the hotel to help arrange an outing that fits your plans.

We personally did a sail boat excursion, but saw many other couples do speed boats and catamarans. Champagne sunset cruise, anyone?

Don’t Forget the Water Sports

If you want a little more adventure without leaving the resort, Sugar Beach offers a variety of water activities. Options include tubing, snorkeling, and water trampolines, alongside other opportunities to get out on the water.

Snorkeling is especially worth making time for, given the beautiful marine life around the pitons. You can easily alternate between active mornings and slow afternoons in the sand, which is exactly the kind of balance I’d want on a honeymoon.

Where to Eat: The Restaurants Worth Your Time

One of the best parts of staying at Sugar Beach is that you don’t have to sacrifice great food for a beautiful setting. Between a special-occasion dinner, a meal with a view, and a casual beachside bite, there are a few spots I’d make a point of visiting.

Saltwood: For a Special Dinner

For fine dining right at the resort, Saltwood is a must. It’s an excellent choice for a romantic evening when you want to get dressed up, enjoy a beautiful meal, and make dinner feel like an occasion.

For honeymooners, I’d plan at least one special dinner here. There’s something lovely about having an elevated dining experience without needing to leave the property, especially after a day spent in the sun. The restaurant overlooks the entire resort and has picturesque views of the sunset.

Tree Top: Dinner With a View

For a meal off property, Tree Top is one of my recommendations. The views are amazing, and the food makes the experience just as memorable. It’s the sort of restaurant where the setting becomes part of the evening, making it a great choice for a romantic dinner away from the resort.

I’d recommend planning this one in advance and asking the hotel to help coordinate transportation so you can enjoy the evening without worrying about the logistics. This is a little further, about a 35 minute drive, but totally worth it.

Jetty Burger: The Perfect Beach-Day Snack

Not every meal on vacation needs to be a formal affair. For something casual, Jetty Burger at the South Pier is a great option for a midday bite.

It’s ideal when you want to grab something satisfying between swimming, snorkeling, and lounging on the beach. My advice? Don’t underestimate the importance of a good burger break in the middle of a long beach day.

The Luxury Is in the Little Things

What ultimately made Sugar Beach so memorable for us wasn’t just the scenery or the accommodations. It was how consistently personal the experience felt.

The resort may not be sprawling, but that is part of its charm. You can move easily between your room, the beach, restaurants, and activities, while the team makes an effort to tailor the experience to you. From the butlers who looked after us all week to the beach staff ready to bring whatever we needed, the service made everything feel effortless.

For a honeymoon, that matters. After months of wedding planning, you want a trip where you can slow down, enjoy each other, and let someone else handle the details.

Is Sugar Beach Worth It for a Honeymoon?

For couples looking for a combination of natural beauty, personalized service, excellent dining, and plenty of opportunities to relax or explore, Sugar Beach is an incredibly compelling choice.

St. Lucia has the dramatic scenery and tropical appeal that have long made destinations like Maui and Bora Bora bucket-list favorites, but it offers its own distinctive Caribbean atmosphere. And Sugar Beach brings all of that together in a setting that feels intimate, romantic, and exceptionally well cared for.

My biggest piece of advice? Don’t overschedule your stay. Book your boat day, make time for the Sulphur Springs, reserve a few memorable dinners, and leave plenty of room for afternoons when the only plan is to sit on the beach with a drink in hand.

Because sometimes the best honeymoon memories aren’t the excursions or the restaurant reservations. They’re the quiet moments in between — and at Sugar Beach, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy them.
